Description:

This work was commissioned for a project of contemporary dance.
This music tells the path that has been done together, in an attempt to join the technical needs of the dancer’s movements with the pleasure, in its own right, of pure listening.
So just imagine the sounds twisted in a dance movement.  Look for atmospheres, moods, electronic symphonies, and not exactly the reassuring and familiar places of usual songs.
Happy listening.

Electronic music:

Electronic music is a term for music created using electronic devices. As defined by the IEEE standards body, electronic devices are low-power systems and use components such as transistors and integrated circuits. Working from this definition, distinction can be made between instruments that produce sound through electromechanical means as opposed to instruments that produce sound using electronic components.

Genres:

Electronic music, especially in the late 1990s fractured into many genres, styles and sub-styles, too many to list here. Although there are no hard and fast boundaries, broadly speaking we can identify the experimental and classic styles: electronic art music , musique concrète; the industrial music and synth pop styles of the 1980s; styles that are primarily intended for dance such as italo disco, techno, house, trance, elektro, breakbeat, drum&bass and styles that are intended more as experimental styles or for home listening such as IDM, glitch and trip-hop. The proliferation of personal computers and the MIDI interface beginning in the 1980s brought about a new genre of electronic music, known loosely as chip music or bit pop. The latter categories such as IDM, glitch and chip music share much in common with the art and musique concrète styles which predate it by several decades.

Contemporary dance:

Contemporary dance is the name given to a group of  20th century concert dance forms.

Rather than a specific dance technique contemporary dance is a collection of systems and methods developed from Modern and Postmodern dance. The development of contemporary dance was parallel but separate to the development of New Dance in Britain. Distinctions can be made between European, Canadian and American Contemporary dance.

Technique:

Rather than emphasising technique per se, which is seen more as a tool for the dancer and a means by which to strengthen the body, increase flexibility, and through a deliberate exposure of the contemporary dancer to a wide range of techniques to ensure versatility, contemporary dance as a field is more concerned with examining the choreographic and performing process: as a result there has been limited development of dance techniques by seminal dance artists. Instead, contemporary dance draws on modern dance techniques (developed in the first 60 years of the 20th century) and an array of still developing philosophies of movement based on study of the human body and body/mind interralationships.

Once time, somewhere, with Miss Sophie Higgins D.I.Y. 2008

Once in a time, somewhere, with Miss Sophie Higgins D.I.Y.
It was a hot musical summer night in front of the sea… a good time for improvvisations.

Music from a forest of bamboo

Description:

This work was commissioned for a permanent art installation by Arch. Enrico Realacci (ERA Studio, Rome) placed at the entrance foyer of the Haworth Castelli showroom.
This music was conceived to be the cyclic soundtrack for a continue color changing glass window.
The 6 surround channels was used as a sort of linear-human-walking-mixer: every channel emits a single sound, that the visitor can recognize or mix with others channel, walking along the glass window.
All sounds are digitally recreated with different types of synthesis, no samples was used.
